Description

This is a common problem in modern residential buildings. When the range hood or exhaust fan is turned on, it creates negative pressure in the room. To balance the indoor and outdoor air pressure, air is forcefully drawn in to compensate for the air being extracted by the range hood and exhaust fan. Because of the strong sealing performance of doors and windows, air cannot easily enter through cracks and instead enters through the sewer pipes, causing odors and small flying insects to enter the room. Although there are deodorizing floor drains, their effectiveness is limited and only addresses the symptoms, not the root cause. Our Qianjia brand ventilation pressure balancing machine solves the problem of negative pressure at its source, eliminating sewer odors.

In drainage systems, a water seal is a device that allows wastewater and sewage to drain smoothly. The gas passage is sealed by a water column, preventing sewer odors and harmful toxic gases from escaping into the room. A P-trap is a pipe fitting that acts as a water seal. The P-trap is located at the outlet of the sanitary fixture or in the structure of the sanitary fixture itself (such as in a bathroom). If the water seal of the sanitary fixture's P-trap is damaged, it can cause the sanitary fixture to bubble, overflow, splash, and sewer odors and harmful toxic gases to escape, affecting use and air quality and endangering people's physical and mental health. We should strictly require the adoption of various technical measures in design and construction to prevent sewer odors. In other words, any bubbling from the trap due to pressure fluctuations in the pipe is defined as water seal failure.

Pressure fluctuations in the drainage pipe system cause the water seal of the trap to be destroyed. When the fixture drains, wastewater falls along the drain stack. Influenced by various factors, it is an unstable gas-water movement. When the flow rate is low, the water flows spirally along the outer periphery of the pipe wall, promoting normal air circulation in the pipe, large ventilation, and stable air pressure. As the water volume increases, the spiral motion is destroyed, gradually changing from spiral motion to a falling water curtain state, and then to a diaphragm motion, forming an unstable water plug flow. The movement of the water plug flow causes the air pressure in the pipe to change rapidly, from stable to fluctuating. The pressure in front of the water plug, that is, at the bottom of the drain stack, is greater than atmospheric pressure, that is, a positive pressure value. This positive pressure value destroys the internal water seal of the sanitary ware on the bottom horizontal branch pipe connected to the stack, causing the water seal of the P-trap to be pressurized and ejected upwards (sewer odor), seriously affecting its use. Negative pressure is formed behind the water plug, that is, in the upper part of the stack, also causing the trap water seal to be destroyed.

At the same time, when the sanitary ware drains, the flow velocity of the water in the drain stack is high, while the flow velocity of the water in the horizontal branch pipe is low. Suction is generated at the outlet of the P-trap, which is the self-siphoning phenomenon, forming a local vacuum that destroys the water seal and causes sewer odor. Therefore, we should pay close attention to sewer odor and adopt the following technical measures, reasonably arrange the pipes, and avoid such problems.

Installing a Green Future drainage deodorizing and suction valve can protect the water seal in the P-trap from damage. Its working principle is: when the drain pipe is under negative pressure, that is, when siphoning occurs, the suction valve opens, allowing air to enter and protect the water seal in the P-trap from being pulled; when the drain pipe is under positive pressure, the suction valve closes, and the odor in the drain pipe is sealed in the pipe and will not cause sewer odor.
